Have you ever wonder what God does with the things we give him such as sin, praise, prayer, service, and money? I have been inspired with this thought and realized it would be a great topic to study. Here is the first post of several in this series which you will see on my blog. Each topic could very easily be expanded dramatically, but I try to keep it concise and stick to the question and answer. I hope this post will be an encouragement to you.

QUESTION: WHAT DOES GOD DO WITH SIN?

God never sends innocent people to Hell. But then, nobody is innocent, as Romans reminds us without exaggeration that “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” So in our natural state it grimly looked like all of us were going to Hell. Thankfully God did something about that and gave us an option.

The simple message of I John 1:9 makes it clear: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

It’s ok to bring all your sins, confusion, fears, burdens, and helplessness and pile it all at the feet of Jesus Christ; it’s expected, and He literally wants it.

Giving something away is a great feeling; but don’t go gather more stuff. Repentance is equally as crucial as is confession: Acts 3:19 “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.”

We are reminded in I John 1:7 that “The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” Imagine if you were to write each sin you ever commit on separate pieces of paper. Using a black permanent marker and a steady hand, you would write each sin in big bold letters. Now imagine how awful it is, knowing that each of these are rebellion against God Almighty. Your only hope is for the words to be blotted out – hmm, with blood perhaps? To produce enough to cover up the sins of the whole world would take a lot of blood…and a lot of pain…and a lot of love.

Apparently blood blotting isn’t enough…He also gets rid of the blood blotted sins. Reading in Psalm 103 is such a blessing, especially verses 9 to 12, where it says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” Talk about obliteration!

I would think that blood and utter obliteration would be enough, but there is even more spectacular news – redemption! All the time you’ve wasted in sin…is bought back. Say what? Yes, Jesus our redeemer takes our sins, even a lifetime of it, and turns around and makes something good happen because of it. I think redemption is one of the most amazing things about God. That He can and will make something beautiful from the trash in our lives (if we let him). God is so amazing and we are so unworthy.

ANSWER: GOD FORGIVES, BLOTS OUT, OBLITERATES, AND REDEEMS OUR SIN WHEN WE GIVE IT TO HIM.
